About the Golf Course
Perched dramatically on the cliffs just outside St Andrews, The Castle Course is the newest addition to the Home of Golf — and arguably its boldest. Designed by David McLay Kidd, this modern championship links delivers panoramic North Sea views, strategic risk-reward design, and some of the most visually spectacular holes in Scotland. It’s not just a round of golf — it’s a statement.

Read more about Castle Course - St Andrews Links
Opened in 2008, The Castle Course was created to expand St Andrews Links’ championship offering while maintaining the spirit of traditional Scottish links golf. Unlike the historic inland links of the Old and New Courses, The Castle sits high above the coastline, offering dramatic elevation changes and breathtaking cliff-top vistas.
David McLay Kidd, also architect of Bandon Dunes, crafted a layout that blends modern shaping with classic links characteristics — firm fairways, sculpted bunkering, expansive greens, and constant coastal winds that demand strategic precision.
The course has undergone refinements since opening, improving green contours and playability while maintaining its championship identity.
