Golf in Italy combines classic parkland courses, lake and mountain scenery and some of the best food and wine in Europe. Most courses lie in the north, around Milan, the Italian lakes and Piedmont, where tree-lined layouts sit in rolling hills, while Rome and Umbria add championship golf further south. Mild spring and autumn weather, short drives between clubs and historic towns close by make Italy easy to combine into one golf trip.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, just outside Rome, has hosted the Ryder Cup. The Jim Fazio design was completely reworked to meet tournament standards, so it offers a strong challenge and a real sense of occasion.
Golf Club Biella "Le Betulle" is a parkland course in the hills of Piedmont that many golfers rate among the finest in the country. Its natural setting and demanding holes make it a must for keen players.
Golf Club Castelconturbia is known as one of the most challenging clubs in Italy. Three nine-hole loops let you choose your own combination, so it is easy to play more than one round here.
Circolo Golf Villa d'Este is one of Italy's classic courses, set among pines, chestnuts and birches with views of Lake Montorfano. It is a traditional, characterful round close to Lake Como.
Royal Park Bank Course in Fiano, Piedmont, is the more modern of the club's layouts. Wider fairways, bold bunkering and a slightly longer course reward confident shot-making.
Antognolla Golf Club in Umbria was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Long fairways, water hazards and large, undulating greens make it one of the most striking courses in central Italy.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons for golf in Italy, with comfortable temperatures and courses in good condition across the north and centre. Summer is warm, especially around Rome, so early or late tee times in Italy are the most pleasant. In the north, winters are cooler and some days can be frosty or foggy, while central Italy is usually milder. Book early in the busy spring and autumn months for the best choice of times and green fees in Italy.
Milan's airports are the most convenient gateway for the courses around the lakes, Varese and much of Piedmont, and Turin Airport is close to the clubs further west. Verona Airport serves the Veneto, while Rome Fiumicino is the main gateway for Marco Simone and central Italy. Perugia Airport is the nearest option for Umbria. A hire car makes it easy to combine several courses during an Italy golf holiday.
The north is the heart of golf in Italy. Around Milan, Como and Varese you will find classic clubs close to the lakes, and Piedmont adds courses in the hills around Turin, Biella and Lake Maggiore. Further south, Rome and Umbria combine championship golf with some of Italy's best-known historic sights.
