Royal Melbourne Golf Club is one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the world and the home of Australia’s most celebrated Sandbelt golf courses. Located just south of Melbourne, the club has earned a global reputation for championship golf, exceptional conditioning, and timeless architecture.

While the West Course often receives most of the international attention, the East Course is an outstanding championship layout in its own right and forms an integral part of the Royal Melbourne experience. Designed by Alex Russell, a former associate of Alister MacKenzie, the East Course opened in 1932 and perfectly complements the neighbouring West Course. The layout follows the natural contours of Melbourne’s famous Sandbelt terrain and features the fast-running fairways, strategic bunkering, and firm playing conditions that define classic Australian golf.

The East Course places a premium on positioning and shot-making rather than power. Well-protected greens, subtle slopes, and carefully placed bunkers challenge golfers to think their way around the course. The routing provides a varied and enjoyable round that many members regard as one of the most underrated championship courses in Australia.

Several holes from the East Course are also incorporated into Royal Melbourne’s famous Composite Course, used for major international tournaments.
