Arrival
On arrival visitors should report first to the Professional Shop where they will be advised of the Clubhouse door access code.
Dress Code
The general principle is that visitors shall conform to the best of golf standards both on and off the course. Please wear golf clothing that can be found in most professional shops. Tailored shorts are permitted with short socks.
Clubhouse
Smart casual wear is accepted in the Spike Bar and Main Lounge. Golf shoes and waterproof clothing are not to be worn in the Clubhouse other than in the locker rooms and Spike Bar. Jeans, tracksuits, t-shirts and training shoes / sneakers are not permitted either on the course or in the Clubhouse. A jacket and tie must be worn at all times in the Dining Room at the weekend unless otherwise arranged with the secretary’s office.
Course Etiquette
Golfers will play from the yellow tees (green tees in winter) unless a prior arrangement has been agreed upon. This is to help ensure a good pace of play and for the enjoyment of all golfers. Normal courtesies and etiquette for golf should be always observed. If your group is holding up play, please stand aside and let the group behind play through.
At Royal Birkdale ‘Ready Golf’ is encouraged, players are both allowed and encouraged to play out of turn in a safe and responsible way.
Practice Range
Available on the day of play, tokens can be collected from the Professional shop.
Mobile Phones
Please ensure they are silent in the Clubhouse; they may be answered and used discreetly in the Golfers’ Corridor and Locker Rooms.
Buggies
Use of a ride-on buggy is restricted to visitors who have a genuine incapacity to play golf unless aided by the use of the buggy. Anyone wishing to rent a buggy should complete the policy on our website (www.royalbirkdale.com) and contact the Secretary’s Office in writing.
